Banteay Srei temple is located northern of Siem Reap. It is 37 km out of town. It is a fun way to see the surrounding countryside as you ride through the villages, rice paddies and temples of Siem Reap Province. On the way to get there we can visit the local villages, palm market, butterfly garden, and the land mine museum. Banteay Srei was built by King Jayavaraman V in 967 AD and finished by King Rajendravaraman dedicatd to Shiva.
Banteay Srei was the first major temple restoration undertaken by the EFEO in 1930 using the anastylosis method. The temple was rediscovered only in 1914. Banteay Srei in Khmer mean City of Women. The temple is the most beautiful temple's carving with the pink sandstone face to the east direction. Originally, the temple was surrounded by a town called Īśvarapura.
